The Benefit of Having Overseers

We’re the Executives Of Our Life

Part 2 – The Benefit of Having Overseers

Do you have anyone who advises you on matters of your home and/or your life?
At some point in your life you were okay with others telling you what you should do, then all of a sudden you wanted to make your own decisions.  Later in your life, you wished you had someone making the decisions for you again.  Which job should I take?  Am I in the right field of study?  Should I get married?  Where should we live?  Should I purchase this home?  Is this the right time? The list goes on and on.

The idea of overseers
Just a year ago, I decided that I needed to add what I call “overseers” to my life.  I was sitting in a church service and was reminded of the structure of our church.  Our local church pastor, who I will get to later, mentioned the overseers.  They are a group of people that provide him with counsel, a group who can speak into his life and a group of people who have the right to correct him if necessary.  What a novel idea!  What would my life be like if I had a group of people who made sure I stayed on course?  What if I had a group who made sure I stayed faithful to my family?  What if I had a group of guys whose sole responsibility to me was to make sure I accomplished my God-given mission? With that said, I decided to appoint 2 overseers in my life, my business.  20161216-tif-sm-the-benefit-of-having-overseers

Before I explain who they are, which I am a little hesitant to share their names,  let me say there’s only 2 and that’s because this role is so important and one that I don’t take lightly. These 2 guys are so inspirational and impacting in my life, there aren’t any others who can compare.  Now for the detail on them both.

My brothers keeper
From the moment, I entered the earth, I have always had an older brother, Jesse Clark (JOC).  He has had the job of protecting me all my life and has never once let me down.

I have personally charged him with overseeing my life as a whole and because of this, I am going to make my life a success.

A friend who sticks closer than a brother
My parents gave me 2 siblings, 1 brother and 1 sister.  However, God gave me a friend, Brian Holley, who is as close to me as a brother.  This guy is able to accept me for me.  No dressing up necessary.  I have charged him with overseeing my life, my business.  I can count on Brian to say to me what needs to be said even if the subject matter is tough.

The overseers in my life
These two guys are the people I can call on at any time, day or night.  These guys meet with me regularly.  Sometimes we just hang out, but every time, I’m sharpened.

Pamela loves the fact that I have overseers, because she knows who to call if I need to be straightened out, if you know what I mean.

Sometimes in life you need someone who can return you to your senses.  That’s exactly what JOC and Brian do for me.  I will not fail these guys; they are one of my biggest sources of motivation.

In closing, you need overseers in your life.  With overseers, you won’t get off course and you lessen the chance of doing the stupid stuff we tend to do when we have no one watching over us.

What would having overseers in your life do for you?  How much better would your life be if you appointed overseers for your life, your business?  Call up that person you highly respect today and ask them to be your life’s overseer.  Share this message with them and share with me any ideas you have to make this a truly beneficial relationship.

[…] My brother managed a Rent-A-Center location and hearing how their business model worked fascinated me.  Listen to this. Say you’d like to purchase a washer and dryer combination and you don’t have the $1800 you need to get the front-load washer you’d like.  Rent-A-Center offers a service where you can rent to own for only $29 a week.  So you can get the set you desire for just $29 a week. Sounds good right?  The key here is to keep the payments small and doable. […]

[…] My brother is what one would call a fire-starter.  He has a love to see a fire burning. He enjoys seeing the fire blazing.  There are times when what we wish to burn is a little damp and to get the fire started we need some help.  So, he’ll use an accelerant (like gasoline or motor oil) to get the fire blazing. In the same way, your gift could use an accelerant to get moving in the right direction. […]

[…] My brother, uses this phrase often, we’re “making memories.”  He knows how to put life and life’s moments into perspective.  It’s those times when we might not feel like doing things or participating, that we need a reminder that we’re “making memories.”  Each day is an opportunity to make a memory.
